Big Changes from ICC 2025: world cup 32 teams, olympic cricket, two-Division Test Cricket and T20 Expansion

So hey guys how are you all? I hope you guys are doing very well. Guys, recently ICC had a general meeting in Singapore and after that we will see a lot of things changing. The dream of us cricket fans and my dream too of opening this channel and seeing cricket expanding. Maybe we are seeing that thing coming true somewhere. And a lot of things will change. So we will talk about it one by one. So the first major change that we can see is in our test cricket. The system that is currently used in test cricket,

in the World Test Championship, that thing can change. And this thing can come in two divisions. Meaning that the top six teams will play in one division and the bottom six teams will play in another division. And along with this there will also be a promotion and relegation system. And this thing can bring a lot of change. If we look from the point of view of Test cricket, we can see many things changing. It seems like there will be a similar situation. 

The top six teams will play in Division One such as Australia, South Africa, England,India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. These six teams will play in Division One. Then the bottom six teams, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will play in another division. Then after this, it means that the top two teams in Division One will play the final of WTC. And along with this, the team that finishes at number six will become delegates in Division Two. And the team that tops in Division Two will be promoted to Division One. And we can see this thing changing in Test cricket to some extent.

At present, we see that in the World Test Championship, we see a little bit that some teams play very few matches with other teams. Some teams play more matches with other teams. So this is a problem. And this problem can definitely remain even after division. But still it is a good initiative. Because the teams at the bottom like Ireland, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe do not even get a chance to play many Tests. Instead they are full members. So this is a very good thing. Along with this, there is not much update on the ODI Super League which used to happen earlier between 13 teams.

I thought that they would talk about it because 14 teams will be seen participating in the 2027 Cricket World Cup. So I thought that in this we will talk about the Super League and the qualification scenario, but there has not been much discussion on this. Then if we talk about the most positive thing that I found in this annual conference is that the T20 World Cup can be expanded even more. 

And there are reports that in the upcoming T20 World Cups, we can see 32 teams participating . Yes, you heard it right. Just like a FIFA World Cup, we can see 32 teams participating in the T20 World Cup. And this thing will change a lot. Because at the present time, we have just seen that the 28th ranked Italian team has qualified for the T20 World Cup. And these things will prove to be very positive things for cricket. Because all these stories that are underdog stories will definitely motivate cricket. Look, at the present time, if we talk about the T20 World Cup that will be held next year in 2026, which India and Sri Lanka will host, then obviously we can see 20 teams in it. and if we talk about 32 teams, what is the expectation that when can we get to see 32 teams. Look, I think that we may not get to see 32 teams in the T20 World Cup of 2028. I think we should shift to 24 teams. Then 32 teams will be fine. Because if you see the teams below in the current time , the competition is increasing a lot these days . 

We have recently seen that the UAE team defeated Bangladesh in a brutal series. And the same UAE team lost the match to Uganda in the last matches in the United Arab Emirates. And along with this, Bangladesh has also defeated Pakistan. So there is competition in T20. You will have to accept this. So according to me, guys, 32 teams may be right from 2030 or 32 teams may be right from 2032. But now, in the T20 World Cup next year, 20 teams will be right. But its next edition is 2028 In the T20 World Cup that will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand, I would definitely like to see a T20 World Cup between 24 teams. Because 20 teams are fine but 24 teams will be the best according to me. 

In the present time, if we talk about a team like Scotland which is ranked 15th, then it can miss it, then definitely the competition in cricket is coming up, the teams at the bottom are coming up, so that is a really great sign of success for cricket guys. So I would definitely like to see 24 teams in the T20 World Cup of 2028, then further 32 teams will be very good. if we talk about the qualification scenario of Olympics 2028, something has already come in front of us. Look, in Olympics we will get to see six teams in men's and six teams in women's. And if we talk about the qualification scenario in the men's tournament, if this tournament happens between six teams, then USA as a host will qualify. Along with this, if we talk about the other four different regions, the top teams from four different regions will qualify. That means the top team from Africa will qualify. The top team from Asia will qualify. Then the top team from Pacific will qualify. Then the top team from Europe will qualify. Then one slot remains. That means there will be different teams from one region in this qualification. So one team will qualify from each continent. So it becomes five teams. Then there will be one more team and one more global qualifiers. One more team can come from this. So there will be a total of six teams. And along with this, if we talk about the major problem, then look, the West Indies and England teams have major problems.

So, such a scenario can happen that there will be separate qualifications in West Indies cricket . Meaning , there will be a qualification among the small island countries in West Indies, from which one team will qualify and that team will join the global qualifiers. Yes, the qualification series is very dangerous . But along with that, if we talk about England, then Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland together will form a team and then they will be able to participate in cricket. Such a scenario can happen. 

And I am not very clear about the scenario in Women. Because in Women, look, USA cannot even get direct qualification. Some such reports are coming guys. So, if more reports come, then definitely videos will come. Along with this, if we talk about ICC suspending USA cricket, they have already done it. And now look, there will be a discussion that major problems are going on in USA cricket. And the issues are going on right now. So USA cricket is facing the issue of governance. So you can say that this is a very bad time for USA cricket.So this is the scenario of USA cricket. There is a lot of corruption. And along with this, if we talk about the last update, two countries have fulfilled their ICC membership. And we have two more countries which have become ICC members. One is your country Zambia, they have got membership from ICC. And along with this, there is a country called East Timer. They have also got ICC membership. So two more associate nations have been added to our list. So these are some updates. Look, there is no update on full members right now.

Will Scotland get full membership or not? There is not much update. Because I thought that there might be some discussion on full membership in this meeting. But sadly, not much has been discussed on full membership. So all the cricket fans, I would like to tell you that right now there is no chance of Scotland getting full membership. Right now ICC is focusing more on expanding the T20 World Cup, which is a very good thing.
