Shubman Gill’s HISTORIC Century as Captain! India’s New Cricket Legend is Born!
Indian captain Shubman Gill made history in the Test match against England, becoming the fourth Indian to score a century in his first innings as Test captain, joining the elite list of stars like Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar. The record was first set by Vijay Hazare in 1951, who scored a century in his debut Test as captain. Sunil Gavaskar achieved the same feat in 1976 against New Zealand, followed by Virat Kohli in 2014 against Australia. Gill has now etched his name into this historic list.
Globally, Gill is the 23rd player to score a century in his first innings as Test captain. He reached his century off 140 balls. Batting first after losing the toss, Gill came in at number four. With India in trouble after losing KL Rahul and Sai Sudarshan in quick succession, Gill steadied the ship. Partnering with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, he forged a crucial 129-run stand for the third wicket, guiding India forward. After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Rishabh Pant provided solid support, helping Gill reach his century, which included 15 boundaries. Gill’s knock ensured India ended the first day in a strong position.
